Famous Scientist Day
As part of the whole school ‘Famous Scientist Days’ 3W studied Isaac Newton and took part in some experiments to learn more about forces. We first investigated whether ‘the people with the longest legs could jump the furthest’. We tested this out in groups, collecting our data and found out that this statement is generally true. We learned that having longer legs enable us to use more force to jump further. We then began to learn about air resistance and how both downwards and upwards forces help to give planes up in the air.
We designed and created our own planes to fly a message across the classroom, with Daralee and Lucy’s planes being the best, before taking them outside to see if they would fly even better. Noah’s plane was the best outside, managing to stay in flight for ages!
We had a great day learning about Newton and testing out different forces.
