On Thursday 24th May Year 5 performed their Musical Showcase twice: once to KS2 pupils and once to their parents. Both performances were a HUGE success.
Each class has worked with Mr England to learn different musical pieces on the violins and cellos. 5H performed ‘Trolls, Orks and Goblins’ and the well-known ‘Can Can’. They were followed by 5D who performed ‘Patrick’s Reel’ and ‘Dark Horse’. Finally, 5C finished the strings performances with ‘Airport’ and ‘Captain Jack’s Hornpipe’, which included a cello solo from Benedict.
Energetic Samba performances followed with some children parading into the hall with their instruments. When learning to play the Samba instruments the classes worked together to form two large groups. Each group worked enthusiastically with Mrs Hill to learn and perform ‘Hip Hop Groove’ and ‘Samba Reggae’. First rehearsals took place outside in the weeks leading up to the final performances in the hall.
The finale was a Year 5 performance of Martha and the Vandella’s ‘Dancing in the Street’ led by Mrs Cooper. Everyone worked well together to perform the different parts of the song.
A fantastic musical showcase. Well done Year 5!
