Yr 2 Church Schools' Festival
On 29th June 6 local schools all met at Grimsby Minster for a day of celebration and creativity as part of the family of church schools.
The pupils started the day with a welcome from the diocese and Canon Andrew Dodd before splitting into three mixed groups of pupils from across the six schools. Each child experienced three workshops throughout the day: drama, art and music before coming together to celebrate the whole day with an act of collective worship.
The drama workshops were led by Josie and Matt and the children created freeze frames based around the theme for the day of friendship. In art workshops led by myself and two other teachers the children created a printed image on a ceramic tile to symbolise friendship and in music the children were led in a choral workshop by Steven Maxson from the Minster Choir.
The children all enjoyed working with pupils from other schools and experiencing something new and different for the day. Each school was able to bring back a selection of tiles from all schools which we will have displayed in our academy.
It was the first time our family of church schools has organised and run a festival for year 2 pupils, but it proved to be such a valuable event that the teachers involved have already begun planning for next year!
