Exercise and mental health for young people

Research clearly states that exercise has many benefits in keeping our heart, body and our minds healthy. Evidence has shown that, exercise can help with anxiety, the risk of depression and protects you from stress. In children, it has been shown to:

  • Help body confidence and self -esteem
  • Concentration during lessons
  • Better sleep
  • Better outlook on life
  • Maintain a healthy and build strong bones, muscles and joints

Our Pupil Well-being & sport enrichment lead ensures that children have access to a range of sports from cricket to Yoga. Furthermore, we have also invested in an outside gym on the playground that children have access to during different sessions during the day.

Well-being garden

This year, our Year six children developed an area of land as a well-being garden for the Lincolnshire Show. This is a project that was researched, led and carried out by the children. The area, designed, included a spiritual area, a relaxation area, a craft area and a wildlife garden. We are hoping to build upon the fantastic work started by the Year six children in the next academic year.

Happy to be Me

Mrs Olufowobi runs a six-week programme, once a week, focusing on pupil well- being. During the course, the children work on key skills and can earn certificates, badges and medals.

The aims of the programme are to:

  • Build confidence in different situations
  • Promote team work
  • Learning about making good choices
  • Improve Self-esteem
  • Teach and develop effective communication strategies
