Forest School

Forest school is a type of outdoor education in which children visit forests and woodlands, learning personal, social and technical skills. Forest school uses the woods and forests as a means to develop confidence and to build independence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a natural environment.

Topics include the role of trees in society, the complex ecosystem supported by a wilderness, and the recognition of specific plants and animals. Personal skills are considered highly valuable, such as teamwork and problem solving and the woodland environment may be also be used to learn about more abstract concepts such as mathematics and communication.
