Our Lorax Assembly
Our theme for this term is Plants: Who needs them? It is based on a book called The Lorax by Dr Seuss and it contains a very important message that we decided to share with everyone in our assembly. The story is about a greedy man called the Onceler who discovered a beautiful land where the Truffula trees grow. He decided to chop the trees down and turn them into things that he could sell. The Lorax tried to protect the trees but the Onceler wouldn’t listen. He built a factory so that he could make things even more quickly. He kept on going until all of the trees had been chopped down; the factory had polluted the air and water; and the animals that relied on the environment to survive had to leave. It was only when a small boy came looking for the last surviving Truffula seed that the Onceler finally understood what he had done.
Reading The Lorax has taught us how important it is to look after the environment so we’re going to learn lots about plants this term. Then we can all help to make our wonderful world a better place. As the Lorax says:
‘Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it’s not.’
