Jewish festival of Sukkot

We looked at the Jewish festival of Sukkot. During Sukkot, Jews remember when God freed Jewish people from slavery in Egypt. After their ancestors left Egypt, they wandered for forty years in the wilderness. To protect themselves, they built temporary homes out of dry palms and branches. Sukkot is also an autumn harvest festival, celebrated at the time when the Jewish people gathered the crops from the fields and the fruit from the orchards. Sukkot is a time to be with family and friends. It is a time to celebrate, be happy, and thank God for his protection. To help us learn about Sukkot, we made models of a Sukkah and decorated them. We also made paper lulavs to shake as we celebrated.
