As part of our topic 'The Battle of Hastings - 1066', we visited a Norman Castle not far from us in Lincoln. The children made replica shields and experienced a medieval banquet with King Henry and his Lords and Ladies. We walked around the castle walls and learnt about the history of the castle and the two mottes built by William the Conqueror.
In the afternoon, the children took part in some knight training learning how to fire a bow and arrow and how much armour the knights had to wear to protect themselves. The children even had the chance to try on some of the armour. We ended the day with a joust between the two opposing teams. After a thoroughly exciting day we returned to school with our shields as a memento of a fun day out.
