Awesome Archaeology

For our 'Awesome Archaeology' topic we were lucky enough to have a visit from two Romans. It was a full day packed with lots of learning. We learnt all about the way of life for a Roman soldier and many interesting facts (such as they invented the first form of a pension).

There was great excitement as children got to wear Roman outfits or feel the weight of the chainmail armour the soldiers had to wear. The children also practised throwing spears (well...replicas) and holding shields in the correct battle formations.

We also learnt about the more wealthy Romans, their homes (villas) and how they treated their slaves. We discovered just how much impact the Romans made to our country by conquering our land!
