Athletics at King George

On Wednesday 4th July our class went to King George V Stadium to take part in a multi-school athletics competitions.  Pupils from Lisle, Old Clee, Thrunsoe, St Peter’s and Bursar spent the day taking part in seven different activities.

We were split into 6 groups in order to compete in different activities: 60m sprint, standing long jump, accuracy throw, long jump, agility course and the javelin.  The final event was a relay which saw the stadium erupt with cheers from all the watching children.

At the end of the afternoon the winners of each event were announced, we knew we’d done well during the relay and that Layton threw the longest javelin of the day, but we still weren’t sure.  After a tense few minutes we were very excited; we achieved first place in the 60m sprint, the agility course and the relay.  All the points were then added together so that the competition winner could be announced.  Medals were handed out for fifth place, fourth place and third place – we were still waiting.  It was between us and Old Clee.  The organisers announced that just 10 points separated us both… WE WON!!  As a class we worked as a team to score an impressive 599 points.

A great day of sport and teamwork.  Well done!
